What is Clonezilla?
You're probably familiar with the popular proprietary commercial package Norton Ghost® and Acronis True Image®. The problem with these software packages is that they come with a steep price tag. Why pay so much when you can get the functionality you need for a fraction of the cost.

In short you can make an image of your hard drive that can be restored in the event of failure, or saved incase you need to restore after a virus, etc. Or you can to drive to drive cloning and copy your current operating system and programs to a new hard drive without the need to reinstall anything.

Clonezilla allows a user to clone an individual machine. A particular partition or entire disk can be cloned to another medium. This can be saved as an image file or as a replicated copy of the data. The data can be saved to locally attached storage, an SSH server, Samba Server or a NFS file share and then restore them at a later date.

Features of Clonezilla
Filesystem supported: ext2, ext3, reiserfs, xfs, jfs of GNU/Linux, FAT, NTFS of MS Windows, and HFS+ of Mac OS (testing feature provided by partclone). Therefore you can clone GNU/Linux, MS windows and Intel-based Mac OS. For these file systems, only used blocks in partition are saved and restored so that the images may be heavily compressed to take up little space. For unsupported file systems  sector-to-sector copying is performed, thus any filesystem may be copied.

Clonezilla is an extremely user friendly cloning tool that is especially good for disc to disc cloning and disc to image cloning.
